2009-10 Rotary Theme The Future of Rotary Is In Your Hands The 2009-10 RI theme acknowledges the important role individual Rotary Clubs will play in shaping the future of Rotary. The future of Rotary will not be shaped at RI headquarters it will be shaped in each and every Rotary club, 2009-10 RI President John Kenny said, because it is for each of us as Rotarians to do what is necessary to keep Rotary strong. Kenny acknowledged the foundation established by past Rotary leaders and laid the responsibility for building upon that success on every Rotarian. Each one of us is standing on the shoulders of generations of Rotarians past, and it is our responsibility to determine Rotary's future, Kenny said. Kenny emphasized that every Rotary club is and must be autonomous. Everything begins and ends with our clubs, he said. Our clubs can and do work together, they work through their own districts, in cooperation with other clubs. And so each club must have autonomy to serve where and how it can serve best. --www.rotary.org

Spotlight on SERVICE Literacy – Library Books
July is Literacy Month, a time for Rotary Clubs to develop their own literacy projects, as well as raise awareness of Rotariansí efforts worldwide to eradicate illiteracy.
Did you know that our weekly TICKET SALES fund the purchase of LIBRARY BOOKS for our local elementary schools? For the 2008-09 school year, the Vinita Rotary Club spent $1,005.48 on books for the libraries of Hall-Halsell and Will Rogers elementary schools. And we will do it again for the 2009-10 school year as well! Rotarian John Link contributes the Rotary labels that go in the front of each of the books.

The Vinita Rotary Club donated a nice selection of new books from classroom and school library wish lists to the Hall-Halsell Elementary library and the Will Rogers Elementary Library recently. At the presentation were (from left): Rotarians Len Dalquest, Dr. Ed Allensworth, Dr. Jimmie Ownbey, Will Rogers librarian Kathleen Gatlin, Rotary President-Elect Bob Green, Will Rogers student Emily DeVore, Hall-Halsell librarian Deann Bruce, student Nick DeVore, Rotary Past-President Amy DeVore, and Rotary President Rod Couch.
